Sudan Archives has announced that her new album THE BPM will be out on October 17 through Stones Throw.
On THE BPM, Sudan Archives – real name Brittney Parks – introduces a new persona: Gadget Girl, a technologically advanced musician who’s exalted by her embrace of technology. “I was never the girl in a band in high school – I could only express myself for the first time when I got my first iPad and started making beats on it, and when I got my first electric violin. I’m all gadget girled out now, but I’ve never felt so free as a human,” she says.
We heard some electronic manipulation on previous single “DEAD”, but those tendencies come right to the fore on the pair of new tracks “MY TYPE” and “YEA YEA YEA”.
The former is a club-ready, high energy bop when Britt is truly feeling herself, rapping to her fullest and chock full of bravado. She’s ready to go and find the person who fits her type – and have her way with them.
The latter has a similar objective lyrically, but here she takes a more sensual approach, switching from psychedelic house to deep R&B to fully express her sexuality – and it’s slick as hell.
Watch the video for “MY TYPE” below and listen to “YEA YEA YEA” beneath – or find both on streamers.
