Billy Corgan’s newest incarnation of his seminal ‘90s alt-rock outfit Smashing Pumpkins will embark on a tour this Fall commemorating the group’s 20th anniversary. The band, which currently includes Corgan, original Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlain, and a couple of no-name replacements for estranged guitarist James Iha and bassist D’Arcy Wretzky, will hit mid-sized theaters in eleven U.S. cities throughout the month of November, playing either one or two shows in each (or four in the case of the Pumpkins’ native Chicago).
According to a press release, the cities that only get one show will be treated to a “unique one-off set,” while the band will play two different sets, called “Black Sunshine” and “White Crosses,” in the cities where they will play two-night stands. No idea what those names mean, but Corgan promises that he has something special in store for these shows. It’s kind of sad to see a tour supposedly celebrating 20 years together when half the band that recorded classic albums like Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is MIA. Still, Corgan is a first-rate songwriter capable of “Disarm” and “Ava Adore,” and will probably play those and other gems from the band’s back catalog in addition to a bunch of new songs nobody cares about.
In other Pumpkins news, the band will debate a new single called “G.L.O.W.” in the upcoming Guitar Hero: World Tour, and a DVD documenting the band’s residency at San Francisco’s Fillmore Auditorium is set for release on November 11.
