Danish producer and songwriter Ellen A. W. Sunde aka Sea Change is releasing her new album Mutual Dreaming in February, and today follows up lead single “Night Eyes” with a new one called “Never Felt…”. She says:
“This was the very first song I wrote for the album. It started as an improvised live version first performed at the Oslo release show but it was in Luft Studio last fall, that it really came to life and became what it is now. This slow-paced, feverish track.”
Although it’s now in a refined, final state, there still does seem to be a spirit of improvisation in “Never Felt…”, as new elements are added to the song almost instinctively. The subtlety of the song means you’ll be practically unaware of being caught in its slipstream as it gradually shifts from a minimal floater to a full-on nocturnal dance track. This impulse-driven production interlocks beautifully with the song’s limited words, which seem to also find Sea Change undergoing a gradual growth and evolution, pushing herself out of the shadows and into a place of self belief.
Of course, it’s open to interpretation, but what is certain is that the album title Mutual Dreaming is perfect, as both tracks released so far sit beautifully in a liminal realm, where we’re invited to meet the artist and explore our own unspoken feelings.
