South Korean indie favourites Say Sue Me are heading out on a North American tour this month and they’re celebrating by releasing a new single called “Mind Is Light”. Vocalist Sumi Choi explains that it is about managing one’s mental health:
“We wanted to make a simple song like the early songs of Say Sue Me. I wish I could take my mind lightly, but it easily becomes heavy. I thought about how to lighten my mind. First of all, I walk outside and BELIEVE that my heart is light. Second, I think it doesn’t matter if it’s not true.”
Appropriately, given the cover artwork (above) was drawn by James McNew of Yo La Tengo, “Mind is Light” buzzes and hums like a lost YLT cut. As the guitars beam down like rays of light, Sumi’s voice meanders amidst their warmth. “I’ve got a lot on my mind / But I know I’ll be fine” she summarises, a natural calmness that is carried on the back of the glorious guitar fuzz and transmits itself into our minds.
