Sara Wolff encounters her past in the sparkling “Homesick”

Liverpool-based songwriter Sara Wolff is releasing a new EP called Magic Hour at the end of May and today she’s shared the latest single from it, “Homesick”. She says:

“You meet yourself in the past whenever you go home, it’s like a mirror to where you once were and who you used to be. It can be so strange to see how everything changes and how nothing has changed at the same time.”

The song begins as an acoustic-led stroll through wistful reflections on then and now, Wolff’s voice in dialogue with her past. As “Homesick” continues, the current version of Wolff leans in to the reflection of her older self, feeling envy at the youthful version’s lack of baggage. Meanwhile, the sonics become denser with sparkling dots of electronics. Towards the end, a wave of thick synth envelopes the song, and it feels like Wolff has stepped through the mirror into a dream world, where she once again walks in her youthful, more carefree footsteps.
