Though Rogue Wave are probably at the peak of their commercial popularity, frontman Zach Rogue recently took a break from the band and wound up recording an album. Using the moniker of Release The Sunbird, Rogue has completed his first album, titled Come Back To Us, and scheduled a July 26th release date.
Refusing labels as a “side-project” and a “solo-project,” the record is neither and both. Nothing about the project indicates any problems within Rogue Wave, nor any desire for Rogue to do something like this on a permanent basis. Rogue, rather, just wanted to try something different and recorded the album on what sounds like a whim. What is promised is a major departure from previous recorded material, with comparisons being drawn to “Lee Hazelwood, Emitt Rhodes, and Levon Helm.” Sounds intriguing to say the least.
Tour dates are promised for the summer and, again, look for Release The Sunbird’s debut, Come Back To Us, from Brushfire Records on July 26th.
