Rising artist riela is well attuned to her multilingual base of operation, Miami. As effortless as its natives switch from English to Spanish tongue, she does accordingly on laid back neo-R&B track “sola”. It’s a supple, trap-based club banger that finds strength in marching to one’s own needs and desires, unburdened from the sway of the surroundings.
riela says of the song: “‘sola’ tells my own personal story of rediscovering who I am without the validation of romantic relationships and encounters. It’s finding my worth through giving myself everything I used to give to other people that didn’t deserve it.”
“sola” is the final song unveiled before the release of riela’s second EP llorar y perrear, which contains songs that stir both body and soul. The ability to reciprocate both her native tongues is an important means of expression to her, being of Panaman-Cuban heritage: “Most if not all of my songs are bilingual. It’s the way I speak in real life, the way most Miamians speak in general. I think it was a really beautiful moment when I realized Spanglish worked well in my music and relayed the message I’m trying to get across. It’s important for me to write and sing in the way I speak so listeners can understand an important part of who I am within a song.”
