Ah, Record Store Day, you always bring the goods. This year’s edition is already packed full of one-off collaborations and covers, reissues and rare pressings (full list here), but they still had an ace up their sleeves.
Last year it was the announcement of Blur’s first new song in years and this time it’s Radiohead who are springing the surprise. Little more than a couple of months after the release of The King Of Limbs the band, notorious for taking their time between releases, are set to put out a 12 inch single with two new songs: “The Butcher” and “Supercollider.” Fans in the know will recognise the latter as a song that was played on the odd occasion during the In Rainbows tour, but the former appears to be completely new. It could, however, be a new name for an old song. Either way we definitely haven’t heard the studio version of it.
The single will be limited to 2000 copies for Record Store Day, which is April 16th.
In other Radiohead news, their newspaper “The Universal Sigh” was released today. Thom Yorke himself was spotted handing out copies at Rough Trade East in London:
If you haven’t managed to pick up a copy for yourself then you can read it here.
