The shortlist for Canada’s prestigious independent music prize, the Polaris Prize, has today been announced. The ten albums announced are all mighty fine examples of Canadian music from the last 12 months, and we at One Thirty BPM can’t agree on who we think or whom we’d like to see win. The obvious favourites must be Arcade Fire, who are looking to continue their winning streak after the Grammys. However, the albums here are better than any of the albums they were nominated against in the Grammys (in our opinion). Check out the list below.
Arcade Fire – The Suburbs (Merge Records)
Austra – Feel It Break (Domino Records)
Braids – Native Speaker (Kanine Records)
Destroyer – Kaputt (Merge Records)
Galaxie – Tigre et Diesel (C4 Productions)
Hey Rosetta! – Seeds (Sonic Records)
Ron Sexsmith – Long Player Late Bloomer (Thirty Tigers)
Colin Stetson – New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges (Constellation Records)
Timber Timbre – Creep On Creepin’ On (Arts & Crafts)
The Weeknd – House of Balloons (Self-released)
