Perfume Genius confirms second album completion

Mike Hadreas, the singer-songwriter who released one of the saddest albums you will ever hear last year under the moniker of Perfume Genius, has confirmed that album number two is indeed in the bag with an uncertain future release date.

In an interview with Dummy, Hadreas had the following response to a question about new material:

Who told you? Did my mom call? She is super pumped. I just finished recording an album in Bristol, I am not sure when it will be released. Most of the songs are about healing or dying or both. I tried to write kind of against my normal temperament – which isn’t always very positive – and write about what I believe in, which is that nobody is ever too fucked to look the world in the eye. Even though I don’t always feel that way about myself I know it to be true. There is a trombone on one song and even some drums! And you can actually hear my voice, that is probably the biggest step up soundwise.

As you can see, Hadreas is actually a funny and spirited guy, which plays out on Twitter, where the singer recently noted, “I am very close to finishing my new album. 2 tracks feature Dennis Franz on the upright ndgeocello.” Next up, the Perfume Genius standup comedy album.

We’ll keep you posted on details on this and Perfume Genius’ actual new music album as they arise. In the meantime, check out his current tour dates below.
