The title of Patrick Wolf’s fifth album, due May 31st, has been changed from The Conqueror to Lupercalia. The album was originally meant to be part of a double album (The Bachelor being the first half), but the singer decided, instead, to release both separately.
When Wolf spoke to Spinner of the album in 09′, he said, “The Bachelor has themes of loneliness, hedonism, depression and melancholy…The Conqueror (Lupercalia) is all my depression being suddenly lifted by true love.” So what has changed in two years? A recent post on his twitter explains, “The Conqueror is no more the album title…. I’ve grown up a lot from that battle aggression…ideas of empathy are more important right now.” The artist has described the new album as, “clean” compared to his previous releases.
Lupercalia’s opening track “The City,” will be released as a single March 14th. The track listing for the new album is as follows:
1. The City
2. House
3. Bermondsey Street
4. The Future
5. Armistice
6. William
7. Time Of My Life
8. The Days
9. Slow Motion
10. Together
11. The Falcons
