of Montreal are a busy band, and in a way, it comes as little surprise that they want to document all they’ve done. After two nights of filming by Craig Zobel following the release of Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?, director Jason Miller followed the band and filmed footage during their Skeletal Lamping tour. During this time the band uncovered some old videos, which is said to be the earliest footage of the band playing together. They’ve accumulated hundreds of hours of footage which dates back as far as sixteen years ago.
The Athens, Georgia band have now set up a Kickstarter page to help acquire funding for the digitization and release of a DVD of all this footage. The DVD–set to be called Song Dynasties–would be released next March should it reach it $75,000 target by next month. Fitting to their style, the band have plenty of zany rewards to offer. These range from a copy of the Song Dynasties on DVD (which comes in special, hand-numbered packaging), an exclusive vinyl album of unreleased four-track recordings, test pressings of previous albums, old VIP passes, a meet and greet with the band, the chance to dance on stage with a friend (after the band have dressed you up, of course), dresses worn by Kevin Barnes during live shows, and–I’m not kidding–the actual canoe from the “Coquet Coquette” video.
