Fruit Bats is the moniker of Eric D. Johnson, a mainly-solo musician from Chicago who makes charming indie pop. I say all this as if Fruit Bats is new, but in fact the project has been around for a decade and this summer Eric Johnson will release Tripper, Fruit Bats’ fifth album.
It’s never too late to sit up and pay attention, and Johnson is making quite a statement here, having recorded a song with none other than J Mascis, but not putting it on the record. Luckily you can download the song, called “WACS,” below.
Tripper will be released by Sub Pop on August 2nd.
