I’ve been hung up on this jam all day, so as I queue the play button time and again I can’t help but want to share. “Globe” is the encore off of Crop Rotation‘s newest EP, a four track intro to one of London’s more mysterious, yet intriguing, duos.
The first two minutes of the nearly seven minute track features various strings and twangs, reminding me of some of The Microphone’s earlier recordings. Mix that with blissful vocals and immediately your mind wanders to Danse Manatee-era Animal Collective. Crop Rotation’s arrangement is astounding, creating a mood that is both tense and melodic, setting the listener up to be blown away for the next four minutes.
When the xylophones, handclaps, shakers, and synths are added, “Globe” explodes into something beautiful, a track who’s landscape is full of hazy nostalgia and gorgeous beaches. Crop Rotations have been on my radar since Rose Quartz first spotlighted them, but this new track is something different, a more focused and refined vision of what glo-fi can and should be.
