Mouth Ulcers battle through mental struggle on “Prevail”

Pulled straight out of the 80s, emerging London-based band Mouth Ulcers debut their latest single “Prevail”, whichthreatens to be just as unignorable as their name. Dark and moody, with hooking, spiralling guitar riffs reminiscient of The Cure, and a twisted mix of Alice in Wonderland-style madness and chaos.

“Prevail” draws inspiration from Andrei Tarkovskyโ€™s iconic 1980s film,ย Stalker. The Russian director based the film on the 1972 science-fiction novel,ย Roadside Picnic,ย which centers around a dangerous and mysterious place called โ€˜The Zoneโ€™, where only a โ€œstalkerโ€ can guide you to, a place rumored to grant a personโ€™s deepest desires. The disturbing twist, however, is that your deepest desires may surprise and even frighten you. Mouth Ulcers muse over this unnerving concept in “Prevail”: โ€œA fear of losing, everything inside your head, so what do you know, about this place, they call it the zone.โ€ย
