The Moth & the Mirror are a Scottish ‘super group’ who first banded together in 2006 to play a handful of live shows, but never managed to make it into the studio. That’s unsurprising considering the amount of different projects the sextet have pulling them in different direction. Their singer, Stacey Wainwright, has previously been in Arab Strap and the Reindeer section; guitarist Gordon Skene is in Frightened Rabbit; Louis Abbot, their other guitarist has worked with Admiral Fellow and Song of Return, while their third guitarist Kevin McCarvel’s other band is Smoke Jaguar. Those four are also joined in The Moth and the Mouth by Iain Sandilands on percussion and Peter Murch on drums.
The band has finally made it into the studio this year and has already set the release of their debut album The World, Honestly, for October 10th on Olive Grove Records. The band worked with Tony Doogan on mixing the album, whose previous work includes records by Mogwai, Super Furry Animals and Belle and Sebastian.
The first song from The World, Honestly is called “Lights in the Sky” and is a perfect piece of visceral chamber pop. You can download the song at their bandcamp or below.
