UK-based quartet Mandy, Indiana have a new album called URGH coming out in a month and following on from lead single “Magazine” (one of our Top 50 Songs of 2025) they have now shared a second single called “Cursive”.
Talking about the track, synth player Simon said: “‘Cursive’ is probably our most collaborative track to-date. Whilst Scott and Valentine often offer the initial impetus behind most of our songs, ‘Cursive’ was built up from a number of Alex’s rhythmic sketches and my bass sequence. Valentine added her vocals later and Scott worked to sculpt these elements together. It was exciting having everyone bring their own ideas to the table from the off, throwing them together and seeing what could come out of it — a bit of a step into the unknown for us as a band.”
“Cursive” is built around interlocking rhythms, primarily from the light, almost tropical drumbeat, but also sharp rivets of noise that rattle in the background and devilishly utilised woodblocks. Valentine Caulfield is in her element, laying down her curious verses in dextrous manner over the propulsive production, jumping to a more conforntational approach as the song’s layers built up. While not as intense as some Mandy, Indiana tracks, “Cursive” still has ample bite but is also combined with some of the act’s most instantly infectious musicality, making it a unsuspecting slammer.
