After delay, after delay, after delay it seems the release of Lupe Fiasco’s now mythical Lazers album now relies on the label. As with so many rap records these days, it all depends on how confident the label feels in regards to the album’s chances of success. He tweeted, “Lasers is out of my hands guys and gals…it’s done and that’s all I can tell you…when they drop it…they drop it…so drop it…” I was beginning to wonder if he’d ever finish the thing, it’s frustrating to see it finally prepared and halted by label politics.
You’d think his recent work (including a guest spot on B.o.B.’s successful debut) and recognition by major players would have Lupe in a decent position, but it seems labels are growing all the more cautious regarding anything resembling real rap. Can you do anything? According to Lupe himself, showing interest to the label is a help, as he posted, “Really appreciate the EXTRA EXTRA effort you guys are putting out to get Lasers released…not fallin on deaf ears up at HQ!”
