Little Monarch glides across the funky pop of “Same Old”

Hailing from delirious chaos of L.A., Casey Kalmenson – better known as Little Monarch – has captured the rapturous ecstasy and confusion that often stem from that very locale with what feels like effortlessness. Her music is decidedly hard to pin down, feeling both retro and “now” at once, seamlessly drifting between shades of Indie pop, Funk, Jazz, and Soul, coloring in between the lines until all the varying colors bleed together into a beautiful, alluring blend.

Her latest, the instantly groovable “Same Old”, benefits in particular from a practically sticky bassline, with her hushed, yet confrontational vocals anchoring the affair. It floats between something akin to Carly Rae Jepsen collaborating with Dâm-Funk, yet is entirely the brainchild of Little Monarch’s judicious production talents.

“Same Old” is just the latest success for Little Monarch, who’s previously gained attention via the likes of “No Matter What” and “Strike”. Check out the song’s delightful video, consisting of something like a low stakes, fun-loving dance off, below, and stay tuned for more from Little Monarch soon.
