Legend has it William Basinski was debuting parts of his four volume Disintergration Loop project for a couple friends on the roof of his Brooklyn apartment building as the World Trade Center towers were struck and collapsed on 9/11. It’s a fitting and understated soundtrack to something so world shattering and (probably) from the Brooklyn apartment onlookers’ point of view oddly peaceful and far away.
The Wordless Music Orchestra performed part of The Disintegration Loops on Sunday as part of the “Remember September 11th” concert held at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. The piece was orchestrated for the performance by Maxim Moston. Head on over to NPR where they’re streaming the whole concert.
