Think of Wickerbird’s music and you’re not likely to immediately think “remix.” What with Blake Cowan’s work tending to be lonesome, solemn, graceful, and peaceful, it’d be hard to think it invites drum tracks full of stuttering hi-hats and cut-and-pasted vocals. Enter Irish duo Versives who take the first track to Wickerbird’s new EP, The Westering, and turn it into a ambient sort of head-banger. “Boreal” is set in full motion within a few seconds as Cowan’s wordless harmonies are turned into high coos amidst a warbling bass synth and from there’s it still manages to retain the above mentioned qualities.
