Back in February, Lost Sound Tapes released a limited edition cassette of covers from indie pop songstress Rose Melberg (Tiger Trap, The Softies) which quickly sold out. Across the 19 tracks on September, Melberg turned her sharpened pop instincts on Black Sabbath, The Clean, and Thin Lizzy, among a dozen other artists, and came away with some of the stickiest, breeziest pop songs of her career. In particular, her cover of “We’re Through” by little known 80’s children band Hunky Dory captures the naivete and mischievous spark of her earlier work. Brimming with shimmering keyboard melodies, jangling guitars, and echo’d vocals, the track sounds like what would have happened if The Ronettes went twee. And if you’re wishing you had grabbed a copy of September before it sold out, you’re in luck. Lost Sound has just repressed another limited number of tapes; so head over to their website now to get a copy while they last. Listen to “We’re Through” below.
