Lil Wayne and Eminem both played Bonnaroo this past weekend, and like a passing of the torch we now have a new Lil Wayne song entitled “Dear Anne,” which is a sequel to Eminem’s classic 2000 track “Stan.” Those who remember “Stan” will know that it ended with the titular character driving himself and his pregnant girlfriend off a bridge. Unlike Eminem’s original, Lil Wayne’s version is written all from his perspective, to his number 1 fan Anne, with no replies. He does make reference to the original song saying “I’m sorry about Stan” in the final verse, but it’s unclear what the relationship between the two characters is. The song focuses more on himself and how he feels about being a famous rapper.
Supposedly this beat – much creepier than the Dido sample from the original – was made for Eminem to use for the sequel, but either not feeling up to it, or not feeling the need to, he never did, and now Weezy has picked it up. Check it out below.
Lil Wayne’s upcoming album, Tha Carter IV, is scheduled for release on Augst 29th.
