The debut album Distractions from artist John Nagle and producer Nahneen Kula came about as a result of chance. Nagle discovered Kula’s homemade recordings online one day and was immediately drawn to her voice and sense of composition. Shortly thereafter, the two met and developed a strong friendship—musically and personally. With Nagle’s guitar grooves and intimate vocals aiding and abetting Kula’s electronic flourishes, the songs that would form the basis of their debut together slowly began to materialize. Self-released and due out August 7th, Distractions is the culmination of their time together and a quirky trip through each other’s influences and experiences. The first single from the album, “Blank Space,” is all sloppy funk rhythms, elastic electronic embellishments, and warm campfire vocals. Listen to the track below.
