In the interim between The xx’s debut album and what could be a very difficult second album we’ve already heard one album from their beatmeister Jamie Smith, albeit an album of Gil Scott-Heron remixes. Now Smith is giving us a first taste of his entirely solo material with a single called “Far Nearer,” that you can buy from today at the label Numbers. Additionally we’ve got the b-side called “Beat For.”
“Far Nearer” is much more dubsteppy than anything on We’re New Here, while “Beat For” has a bit of a tropical vibe. Both show a lot of promise for an album, should Smith have the time to record one while not on duty for The xx. Check out both songs below.
