Yoodoo Park (aka GRMLN) certainly knows how to hit that pop rock sweet spot. The latest single “Hand Pistol” from his upcoming debut LP Empire is all sing-a-long choruses and sugary guitar licks. At less than two and a half minutes, the song is cut lean, no filler or excess baggage. Park’s half-buried late 90’s alt-rock vocals and unavoidably catchy melodies make you wonder what would have happened if bands like Marcy Playground and Fastball has stuck around just a little longer. At the very least, we have the 2013 approximation, and that can only be a good thing. (Clarification: Yes, I did like Marcy Playground and Fastball. And no, my enjoyment was not ironic.)
The debut record from GRMLN is due out June 4th via Carpark Records. Listen to recent single “Hand Pistol” below.
