Conor Oberst has a sprawling discography, released under several different monikers, spanning back well over a decade now, so you’d be forgiven for having missed one once in a while. That may have been the case for you and Oberst’s 2002 pop punk outing with band Desaparecidos, Read Music/Speak Spanish. But, as those in the know can tell you, this is one that shouldn’t be missed, and today Desaparecidos’ small discography is highly regarded amongst Oberst fans.
Today sees the release of the first new song from the band since those early 2000s cuts, and follows on from the recent announcement that the band will be playing this year’s FYF Fest in Los Angeles; their first show outside of one-off shows in their home of Omaha for a very long time. The band now has a string of dates leading up to the festival, which you can see below.
Could this mean a whole album is on the way? We can only speculate, but at least we can do this while listening to the new Desaparecidos song “MariKKKopa.” Check it out below.
UPDATE: Another new song entitled “Backsell” can be heard at Alternative Press.
