Incorporating instruments more widely known for their use in classical arrangements than in dance music, Berlin-based trio Brandt Brauer Frick combine piano, strings, and timpani, along with a wildly free-associative approach to music, on their latest record Miami out March 19th via !K7 Records. Drawing in Om’Mas Keith, the founding member of Sa-Ra Creative Partners and co-producer of Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange, for the first single “Plastic Like Your Mother,” the band seems to channel the same kind of reckless creativity that Keith brought to Channel Orange and combines frenetic, stuttering jazz percussion and repetitive vocals loops in the service of some grand scheme–some attempt at breaking down the barriers between genres and letting the notes run wild.
