Though many of you have already heard Bon Iver’s new album due to a strange iTunes glitch, for those who haven’t, we have a treat for you: the album’s opener, “Perth.” As was the case with “Calgary,” “Perth” finds Justin Vernon maintaining what we love about Bon Iver (the voice, the builds, the immediacy, and the intimacy), while giving it a whole new expansive feel that separates Bon Iver, Bon Iver from For Emma, Forever Ago. And, a couple minutes in, when those drums start banging, see if you don’t get chills.
