Hailing from Vancouver, hardcore metal quartet Baptists recently released (on February 19th) their debut LP Bushcraft via Southern Lord Records. Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou produced the album, and his very distinct approach to blistering speed and immaculate technique can be felt all over the songs, especially on recently released track “Bullet.” Similar in terms of how Converge, and other metal bands like Baroness and Nachtmystium, manage to slip in the slightest hint of a distorted melody and make it stick in your mind like musical napalm, Baptists’ expertly weave eviscerating guitars and a chest-rattling percussive thump in a memorable and oddly melodic attempt to crush your sternum.
