Many questioned where Animal Collective would be going after their most successful album to date, Merriweather Post Pavilion. The single of “Honeycomb” and “Gotham” showed a bit of this direction, but we finally have the first single from Centipede Hz, “Today’s Supernatural” that shows an even more extreme side. Much like Merriweather, the vocals are at the forefront, but this time, the instrumentation is way more organic, and is that rock guitar I hear? This is promising. Tune into Animal Collective’s weekly Sunday night radio shows for your first listen to these tracks, as there will surely be new versions, and possible remixes (such as the one they did for Actress this evening).
