Risqué rap duo LIONSTORM have been causing quite the, well, storm with their taboo-breaking, cutting-edge performances. Skerrie Sterrie and Vuige Muis gulp up all kinds of styles to fuel their cheeky sex-positive lyrical attack, from reggaeton to horrorcore to industrial to – in the case of their high-octane new track “Daddy’s Pussy” – Dutch Hardstyle.
With their infamy The Netherlands set in stone – despite pushback from the status quo – LIONSTORM have continued their adventures abroad. “Daddy’s Pussy” enlists a fun confluence of collaborators, bringing London based producer Shurk and New York artist Quay Dash into the fold, who has worked with the likes of SOPHIE and Sega Bodega in the past.
“We’ve been listening to Quay Dash’ music for years, she’s always inspired us a lot,” LIONSTORM say of their encounter with the latter. “So working in the studio together was such a dream. We actually got the idea for this song many years back but never found the right producer for it until we started working abroad. The Netherlands is pretty normcore overall so working abroad was like a rebirth; being inspired by artists while being in the studio with them was a whole new experience.”
“Daddy’s Pussy” hits a ton of birds with a single Hardstyle-reinforced stone, bringing the Dutch, British and American queer scenes together and and wearing all the homegrown sounds – from gabber culture to Quay Dash’s Bronx-style flow – into the mix. And somehow it works. LIONSTORM have announced that “Daddy’s Pussy” marks the first of a series of collaborative tracks with artists from abroad.
LIONSTORM also haven’t shaken off their knack for subverting gender norms, more often than not with the subtlety of a wrecking ball. “We wanted to objectify the concept of ‘men’ the way we’ve heard it about women so many times but still have it be sexy. It’s unironically a tribute to daddy’s pussy.”
