Not one to sit about idly, Kendrick Lamar is celebrating his signing to Aftermath/Interscope in style: according to Funkmaster Flex, the young MC’s major label debut single is swiftly approaching. No less, it’s set to feature both production and a verse from his titan of a boss, Dr. Dre. Rumors originally hinted the track would release this week, but with something this potentially epic just a week away, who’s to complain?
Do you think Dre will successfully build another star in Lamar? Or, as some have feared, will his notorious perfectionism clash with his mentee’s youth and musical spirit? By putting Detox on hold yet again, the producer has at least displayed serious intent for his pupil. One thing is certain, we’re all waiting with baited breath for what these two Compton kids have to offer. We will keep you posted as the track nears release, and be taking bets as to who penned Dre’s verse; Mr. Mathers, Kendrick himself? Take your best guess.
Edit: It has been alternatively suggested that the track could, in fact, be a Detox track. Our money’s on Kendrick, the absurd saga of Detox hasn’t hinted at ending any time soon, with Dre declaring himself to – yet again – be essentially on leave from his own career. That said, with how strangely he’s treated the record for the last decade, who knows what the super producer is thinking, we’ll all find out soon enough.
