Apparently Kanye gave Justin Vernon the hunger for hip hop. The Bon Iver singer, along with bandmates S. Carey and Ryan Olson (the former of Bon Iver, the latter Gayngs), linked up with experimental MC Astronautalis for an album length collaboration.
Speaking on the album during an interview with City Pages, the rapper revealed the album is essentially complete, with the group “hell bent on getting [it] out really quickly,” so they could follow it with a tour. The effort was recorded at Vernons’ secluded Wisconsin studio, and will likely be rather unique, as Astro explains that it, “will only sound like a hip hop record to a certain degree.”
Little more is known regarding the album, but an interesting, somewhat surprising development, to be sure.
