Maybe you never expected the otherworldliness of Ms. Joanna Newsom to function well within the realm of hip-hop, but as it turns out, the high-brow world of the harp is about to collide with urban-influenced beats. According to Entertainment Weekly, Newsom will collaborate with The Roots (currently serving as Jimmy Fallon’s house band), for their upcoming album, How I Got Over, set for a tentative June release with Def Jam.
Other guests will include John Legend (nothing out of the ordinary there) and Jim James, vocalist of My Morning Jacket and member of the Monsters of Folk supergroup. James’ participation makes sense, considering The Roots have stated plans to include a cover of the Monsters of Folk song “Dear God (Sincerely M.O.F.)” for this album.
