The work of Jetki — aka producer and sound collagist Ian Ostaszewski — is housed in the deep recesses of plunderphonics, a world where maximalist expressions of sample-based euphoria and kitchen sick aesthetics allow for the creation of wild and unpredictable sonic architecture. His latest album, The Radiant Radish, is due out September 2 on Hausu Mountain, and it finds him continuing to push the limits of his equipment and the decibel tolerance of his audience.
Across the breadth of his new single, “Bucking Broadway”, he creates a towering slab of noise that certainly adheres to the more-is-more demeanor of the genre but feels substantially more considered and cosmic that you might expect. Free-jazz eruptions blur together with pop melodies that twist and turn gnarled in their excess. There’s a lovely chaos here that knows when to hold back and when to completely engulf the listener in its aural density. It doesn’t feel directionless, like so many of its turbulent brethren, opting instead for something more purposeful in the contours of its madness.
