Jerskin Fendrix is back with his first non-soundtrack release in some years, “Jerskin Fendrix Freestyle”.
Since releasing his excellent 2020 debut album, the London-based multi-instrumentalist and producer has been on quite a journey, writing film scores for Yorgos Lanthimos’ films Poor Things and Kinds Of Kindness (earning Oscar and Bafta nominations in the process), but he’s back to his outré-pop proclivities with his latest.
Swinging, rapping, huffing and generally just strutting across a chopped-up big band beat, Jerskin’s ego-driven character is at the fore, referencing jihadis, being the wings of a butterfly and washing his dick in the sea, before sitting back into a peaceful moment and enjoying the “beautiful evening”. He’s not done there though, as he brings “Jerskin Fendrix Freestyle” roaring back to its peak with rampaging guitar and trumpet underscoring a wonky rapped mnemonic for his name that features lines like “E is for Eleven pounds, it’s what Jerskin makes” and “S is for Orgasms, it’s what Jerskin fakes”.
Truly, like pretty much all of his songs, trying to capture it in words is a fool’s errand – just listen below or on your preferred streamer.
“Jerskin Fendrix Freestyle” is out on untitled (recs). We’re hoping for more from Jerskin Fendrix in the near future. For now, follow him on Instagram.
