Jaryn Jones shows breakthrough talent on “Hard to Love”

In this summer of BRAT, itโ€™s getting difficult to find female artists who are on the Maggie Rogers/Caroline Polachek path. Thatโ€™s why Nashville artist Jaryn Jonesโ€™ music is so refreshing. Her new single โ€œHard to Loveโ€ is buoyed by a beautiful melody and heartfelt lyrics, without a hint of Charliโ€™s studio glitches and bratty attitude.

โ€œIt was sweet bitterness that pulled me to write this one,โ€ says Jones. โ€œPure heartache, really. I was upset that I allowed myself to be led on for so long by a person that didnโ€™t want me. I was angry I never heard the one simple truth come out of his mouth: โ€œJaryn, youโ€™re just not the one.โ€ I was a guitar on his wall, never to be played, slowly warping away… WHAT TORTURE!!!โ€

Jaryn (whose first name is pronounced like โ€œAaronโ€ with a J) released an EP last fall that was pop perfection. That release featured โ€œSteinwayโ€, which has a bittersweet Stephen Sondheim feel. Another highlight was โ€œDancing With A Foolโ€, which has the elegance of Sara Bareilles.

Jaryn Jones is building a career on the bedrock of genuine talent, not audacity and gimmicks. Keep your eye on this extraordinary newcomer as she puts the finishing touches on her sophomore EP, due early next year.
