Jaryn Jones shows breakthrough talent on “Hard to Love”

In this summer of BRAT, it’s getting difficult to find female artists who are on the Maggie Rogers/Caroline Polachek path. That’s why Nashville artist Jaryn Jones’ music is so refreshing. Her new single “Hard to Love” is buoyed by a beautiful melody and heartfelt lyrics, without a hint of Charli’s studio glitches and bratty attitude.

“It was sweet bitterness that pulled me to write this one,” says Jones. “Pure heartache, really. I was upset that I allowed myself to be led on for so long by a person that didn’t want me. I was angry I never heard the one simple truth come out of his mouth: “Jaryn, you’re just not the one.” I was a guitar on his wall, never to be played, slowly warping away… WHAT TORTURE!!!”

Jaryn (whose first name is pronounced like “Aaron” with a J) released an EP last fall that was pop perfection. That release featured “Steinway”, which has a bittersweet Stephen Sondheim feel. Another highlight was “Dancing With A Fool”, which has the elegance of Sara Bareilles.

Jaryn Jones is building a career on the bedrock of genuine talent, not audacity and gimmicks. Keep your eye on this extraordinary newcomer as she puts the finishing touches on her sophomore EP, due early next year.
