Chart-topping Swedish duo Icona Pop have announced their first album in 10 years: Club Romantech comes out on September 1 through Ultra Records / Iconic Sound Recordings / TEN Music Group. In tandem with the announcement, they’ve shared the new song “Where Do We Go From Here”, saying:
“’Where Do We Go From Here’ was one of the first songs we wrote in the fall of 2020 after realizing we couldn’t move back to LA because of the pandemic. Back in Stockholm, we formed a small crew to start making music and thought ‘what the fuck are we going to do now?’ Eclectic, fun, hard, pop, deep, mainstream, catchy, weird, late at night, early in the morning – always with a tear in the corner of the eye and a smile on our face. That’s how ‘Where Do We Go From Here’ feels and that’s how CLUB ROMANTECH feels too.”
As suggested by the album title, “Where Do We Go From Here” finds Icona Pop leaning into techno stylings for a give-no-fucks end-of-the-world rave. It starts with the duo emphatically detailing all they have, like love, blood and money – and yet they’re still clueless as to where they go next. Answer is: don’t go anywhere! “This must be the place” they decide, and with strobe synths and manic beats detonating all around, it’s hard to disagree. Don’t ever let me go – let’s dance until doomsday.
