Reissues, reissues, reissues. As if there isn’t enough new music coming out that we all need to buy. Next up for the treatment are legendary British rockers Pink Floyd, who undoubtedly deserve to have their albums reissued seeing as they’ve been out of print for a while, and no ‘Greatest Hits’ can really do justice to their catalogue.
They’re not keeping it simple either, in fact their level of detail is quite complicated, but it’s all intended to make it easier for the buyer. The CDs will come in either ‘discovery’, ‘experience’ and ‘immersion’. The whole project is called Why Pink Floyd… ?.
The ‘discovery’ reissues are just single disc reissues of the individual albums for the newcomers who don’t want to be overwhelmed (or maybe the old hats plugging a hole in their collection, or replacing that one they’ve worn out). A box-set of all 14 studio albums’ ‘discovery’ versions will also be available.
The ‘experience’ editions come with a second CD of extra material and an expanded booklet of information. Only Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall and Wish You Were Here are set to be released in this format.
The same three albums will be made available in ‘immersion’ packages, which are big box-sets that, aside from the album, include additional audio and visual material, “plus much additional content – reproduced memorabilia, brand new graphics, art prints, collectors’ items, lavish booklets and more.” All borught to you in a sturdy 29cm square box. Check out a picture of the Dark Side of the Moon version at the bottom.
The official website for Why Pink Floyd… ? hints that more albums will be in for the ‘experience’ and ‘immersion’ treatment in the future.
Those feeling overwhelmed by all of that may be pleased to know that there will be a new ‘Best Of’ album too, called best Of – A Foot In The Door. Check out the tracklist below.
iPhone apps are also on the table for the September 26th release of all this stuff.
So what about us vinyl lovers? Well they’re in the works, but won’t be ready for September 26th. All 14 albums have been remastered for vinyl and will have newly crafted artwork. More news to come.
Everything else is available for pre-order now from the official site. Check out some pictures and the Best Of tracklist below.
