Gone To Color is a collaborative project spearheaded by multi-instrumentalists and producers Matt Heim and Tyler Bradley Walker, with different guest vocalists stepping in for each track. They have a debut album arriving in October, which boasts guest appearances from the likes of Angus Andrew (Liars), Kurt Wagner (Lambchop), and Martina Topley-Bird, among others (see the full track list below). They’re sending out a test balloon today with debut single “The 606”.
Jessie Stein of The Luyas takes the lead vocal on “The 606”, and her playfully fluttering voice works as a perfect adornment to Gone To Color’s percolating synth sound. Meticulous drum machines and a crisp beat underlay a gauzy synth, luring us into a slight sway as Stein begins with innocent utterances about the confusing physicality of human existence. Once Gone To Color layer in a more chugging and domineering synth sound, Stein’s voice and words follow it into an area of insecurity and uncertainty. This intoxicating combination pulls us deeper into a vortex of weightlessness, where Stein wishes “courage my love / stay by my side,” and all we can do is follow her voice and the hypnotic production deeper into the neon synth wormhole.
The video for “The 606” was created by Louis Dazy with Eva Marguerat. Watch it below or listen to the song on streaming platforms.
Gone To Color’s self-titled album comes out on October 15. Make sure to follow them on Bandcamp, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
