Remember the first time you saw “Garden State” and the soundtrack blew your mind? Well, the new Drew Barrymore/Justin Long film “Going The Distance” may have the first soundtrack to come close, both in quality and spirit. It has tracks from Cat Power, Band of Skulls, Passion Pit, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros (on the CD and digital deluxe version), and Eels.
The band most prominently featured in the film is UK band The Boxer Rebellion. With three songs on the soundtrack and a performance in the film, it sounds like The Boxer Rebellion will play a very similar role in “Going The Distance” to The Shins in “Garden State,” where the film comes to a halt to tell you how great this band is. Sounds like they might be worth the trouble though: just as Natalie Portman tells Zach Braff that “oh my god, this band will change your life,” NME has said of the Boxer Rebellion, “This band can alter your life.”
