Gerry Read delivers the shape-shifting disco-funk bop “Shit Can’t Make Anything”

UK producer Gerry Read has released his first new tune of 2020, “Shit Can’t Make Anything”, and it’s a song that deserves to have been released in any other year when we could all enjoy it where it’s supposed to be heard – on a dancefloor.

Nevertheless, the inescapably hooky guitar and beat combo will intoxicate you instantly, and sets him alongside his associate DJ Koze. But Read has a few tricks up his sleeve in “Shit Can’t Make Anything”, sending your dancing feet stumbling through a sonic wormhole, before placing you firmly back on the light-up dancefloor with deadly employment of a classic soul sample. It’s powerful enough to make you forget for a moment that this summer has been a total bust as far as parties go – and hopefully it will still be in rotation by the time they come around again.

Read says: “I hope you enjoy this tune as much as I didn’t enjoy making it. Nobody seems to remember the track title but that might be because it’s non-sentence and named of an ableton project folder. Thank you for not making me change it into something like “zeitgeist lights.”

“Shit Can’t Make Anything” is Gerry Read’s first release for Ministry of Sound, with hopefully more coming soon. Find him on Instagram and Facebook.
