It’s been around for a day or so, but there’s a surprise behind Game’s new “Purp & Patron” mixtape: it hits hard. Speaking as one among the many that haven’t been fond of Game post-Aftermath, this is the hottest he’s been in years. Back on the label, seems like he really does need to be with Dre to put out true fire. Add in the fact that Game’s learned to actually rap in his absence from Aftermath, and you’ve got quite the mixtape on your hands.
Hosted by DJ Skee and Funkmaster Flex, production is handled by the likes of Dre, Pharrell, and RZA, among many others. Guests include Lil Wayne, Fabolous, Snoop Dogg, and Wiz Khalifa. Even KRS-One, Doug E. Fresh, and Big Daddy Kane come ’round for “History”. So, yes, there’s plenty to love here: if you’re the type to turn your nose up at Game, well, we wouldn’t blame you, but if you want to be pleasantly surprised, cop this.
However, if you haven’t burdened your hard drive already, consider waiting. Game has promised a no-DJ “Hangover Edition” with 10 additional tracks, dropping today. Look out for it, because this is a mixtape to have.
