Months back, before we knew that Jonny Greenwood would be scoring P.T. Anderson’s new movie and Radiohead would be touring in 2012, it was revealed that he had been working on an album with Polish avant-garde composer Krzystof Penderecki. Due to a relatively great amount of movement in the Radiohead camp in the months since, this had completely fall off of our radar, but now it’s back at the forefront of our minds since we have the full details.
The duo have creatively decided to go with the title Jonny Greenwood/Krzystof Penderecki for their album, which will come out through Nonesuch on March 13th. All of the pieces found on the album have been previously aired; Greenwood has contributed “Popcorn Superhet Receiver” and “48 Responses to Polymorphia,” while Penderecki’s pieces are “Threnody” and “Polymorphia” which originate from the early 60s, and have influenced Greenwood’s two pieces respectively.
The album was recorded by the Polish AUKSO Orchestra, being conducted by Penderecki and Marek Moś.
