I’m presuming that if you’re reading this then you know the back story about the Beach Boys’ lost SMiLE album and are now just wondering how and when you can finally get your hands on it. (If not, read up here.) This version is “an approximation of what was intended to be the completed SMiLE album, compiled from the Beach Boys’ original session masters,” and featured the input of Beach Boys Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, and Mike Love.
The album, in as original a form as you’re going to get it, will be released by Capitol/EMI on November 1st (the prior day in the UK) and comes in several formats. The picture above, which I’m sure caught your eye, is the biggest and best option comprising five CDs, two LPs, two 7″s, a 60-page book, and “three-dimensional shadowbox lid.” If you’re not quite prepared to go all-out for that then it will also be available on double vinyl, double CD, or iTunes download.
If you want to, you’ll also be able to buy more SMiLE-related merchandise from the Beach Boys’ website including limited edition t-shirts, lithographs and superdeluxe signed editions of the box-set that feature “light-up SMiLE Shop window” artwork and “a custom-made SMiLE surfboard by Hobie.”
Full track lists for all the various versions can be found here, and if you want to enter a competition to create a video for either “Good Vibrations” or “Heroes and Villains” then head here.
