LCD Soundsystem, Bright Eyes, The Streets. Just three acts who have announced that an album will be their last before it is even released. What ever happened to the good old days when bands would break up unexpectedly? Sure, yesterday’s White Stripes announcement came out of the blue but I think we all knew that they were unlikely to release anything new ever again anyway.
In one way I suppose it’s nice not to have a nasty surprise when the band implodes on tour, but at the same time it adds a bittersweet feel to the final album and a lot of expectation for it to live up to.
Anyway that’s the last of my ramblings. The Streets’ final album Computers and Blues is set for release next week, but the sending off party for Mike Skinner starts early over at the Hype Machine where you can stream the album in its entirety for free.
