Forest Fire’s 2008 debut album Survival received plenty of praise amongst some circles, even getting voted album of the year by some reputable music outposts, but the Brooklyn band never really took off as much as they deserved. For their second album they’ve made the move to FatCat, home of Frightened Rabbit and The Twilight Sad amongst others.
Forest Fire’s second album is called Staring at the X and comes out on October 18th. Early reports from the album have compared it to Phosphorescent and The Walkmen, which matches up with main songwriter Mark Thresher’s claim that “this record is our attempt to be more of an ambitious songwriter/rock band, rather than a weird folk band.”
The first song being given away from the album is the infectious “Future Shadows,” which has a slightly tropical vibe, washes of electric guitar, and a deep-set groove, topped off with Thresher’s amorous vocals.
