Folk Bitch Trio sign to Jagjaguwar, release acidic and gorgeous new single “The Actor”

Melbourne/Naarm-based outfit Folk Bitch Trio have just signed to Jagjaguwar and released a new single called “The Actor”. Centered around Gracie Sinclair, Jeanie Pilkington, and Heide Peverelle, the band offers blurred-genre ruminations on “loss, fear, sex, rage, elation but most importantly love and laughs”, according to Peverelle. “We have three individual voices,” they say, “but the story we tell is unified because our hearts are very melded.”

2024 found them growing an already considerable base of fans with an appearance at SXSW and with supporting shows for Alex G, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Julia Jacklin and Courtney Barnett.

Coming on the heels of their 2024 single, “God’s a Different Sword“, the band have delivered an acidic and gorgeous continuation of their Roches-esque aesthetic, harmonies circling and ascending without gravitational influence. “The Actor” is conversational, incriminatory, and filled with moments of conspiratorial despair — though it’s not joyless, just plainspoken in its depiction of a failing relationship and the emotional detritus that we struggle against as we try to keep our head above water.

The band explains that the track is about “falling hard and fast and breaking down quick too”, with lyrics that “flow down from affectionate details you notice about someone when falling in love, fighting and fucking, and ultimately the demise of a relationship at your partner’s solo theatre play.

The accompanying video was co-directed by Bridgette Winten and the band. They’re currently working on their debut album.
