Since departing from our screens after 2009’s second season of Flight of the Conchords, fans have been wondering if we might see them again. Although they announced that there would not be a third season, a tour in 2010 supporting the release of their second album (essentially the songs from their second season) also yielded some new songs that left fans hoping that this was an indication that we might see the two New Zealanders on screen again.
Earlier this year rumours of a movie surfaced, since that’s what a lot of television shows seem to be doing these days, but they seemed more hopeful than anything. However, Bret Mackenzie, in speaking to Total Film while promoting The Muppets, for which he contributed several songs, has confirmed that a full-lenght Flight of the Conchords film is in the works. “We’re gonna try and do a movie. We just need a story,” he told Total Film.
Even though it’s still early days, it’s time to get practising your Kiwi accent again and to wonder just how many songs Flight of the Conchords songs they can put into a full-length movie
